An Update on Yggdrasil

My sweet boi....

Since before we bought him, he'd drag his hind legs some, not a lot, just enough to notice if you were looking. Seller claimed it was just a training issue and that he was sound. We couldn't afford a PPE (Pre-Purchase exam) at the time (My advice to anyone thinking of buying a horse, get that PPE done. Just get it done.).

Rehab exercises, training, then... maybe 7-8 months ago now, he started with some crazy crowhopping (not some little ones either). That would be after he wanted me to ride. We have a bond, so I got saddle fitter out. He said saddle fit. It didn't. It wanted to slide forward so he re-flocked it. I kept a close eye on how my horse was doing and, it seemed to work good at a walk and trot. We kept working on his proprioception with ground poles, groundwork, liberty, TRT method and balance.

People kept telling me all this time it was just a behavioral issue and maybe part of it was... but this was a horse that didn't feel like he would act like that unless something was wrong.

Then. Farrier caught first signs of laminitis earlier this summer. Because we caught it immediately, we reversed it... but I knew something was wrong with my horse, so we got a lameness exam scheduled (it's what they usually want to start with).

Maybe 5-10 minutes into that one, vet did the neurological exam... she couldn't figure out what it was. She didn't think it was EPM, but she wasn't sure what. Yggdrasil got prescribed large doses of vitamin E, and of course, Equioxx. But, he seemed to get worse.

Yggdrasil is very difficult to trailer (and of course having balance issues, it would be extra difficult for him), I wanted to do any possible tests etc done at the barn where he's boarded. At the recent checkup, vet now thinks it could be EPM and since there aren't any tests for anything else it could be, she has given the okay to treat him for EPM. If he gets better (they tend to get worse first she said) then it is EPM.

So, if you are a believer in good thoughts and such, please send 'em. He needs them. This is my sweet boi and we're so bonded. Thank you.
